The company traces its history to 1914, when its founder Antonio Puig created it in Barcelona from the ashes of his import business. The story goes that a German submarine sank a vessel carrying an uninsured shipload of his goods, putting an end to that trading venture. Antonio’s new company distributed perfumes, and before long began to produce its own line of products, including the first lipstick manufactured in Spain and a best-selling lavender fragrance. In the 50s, the second generation led by Antonio and Mariano, focused on revitalizing the group’s image and marketing, and expanding overseas, including in France, the US and the UK. On April 18, the company and the Puig family detailed plans to raise about €2.6 billion ($2.8 billion) in an initial public offering that could give the group a market value of as much as €13.9 billion, according to terms seen by Bloomberg.

Queen Victoria - George III’s granddaughter - appointed Creed as an official supplier to the Royal Household. Then, in 1854, under the patronage of Napoleon III and his Empress, Eugénie, the stylish leader of European fashion, the House of Creed established another headquarters in Paris, France. In the newly rebuilt Second Empire Paris, Creed acquired a reputation for impeccable tailoring and for the exclusivity of its rare and limited bespoke fragrances. The tact and discretion with which a royal, aristocratic and socially prominent clientele were handled rapidly became part of the Creed legend. It also orchestrated a shift away from selling products under licenses to focus on the brands it owned. The company’s turnaround has catapulted Puig into the world’s fourth-biggest perfumes company in the prestige category, according to its IPO prospect.

The House of Creed is an authentic perfume house dedicated to the creation of highly original, artisan fragrances for men and women, made from the finest ingredients the world has to offer. Puig’s acquisition drive began with a transformative deal with designer Paco Rabanne in 1968 to make and distribute his perfumes. Puig tapped a similar playbook, of using fashion to sell fragrance through deals with Carolina Herrera, Nina Ricci and Jean Paul Gaultier in the decades that followed.

BlackRock LTPC is an innovative private equity strategy focused on investing in high-quality businesses and value creation through active collaboration with management teams.

It began as a bottle of Royal English Leather commissioned by King George III after becoming enamoured with a pair of Creed scented gloves. The House of Creed is one of the world’s oldest, privately owned fragrance houses passed down from father to son for more than 250 years, spanning seven generations. As the only fragrance house to rely on an ancient infusion technique to capture the raw and rare materials of each perfume, Creed has created a legacy of unrivaled scents, both commissioned and worn by kings, queens and discerning Creed devotees throughout history. Based out of Paris, each scent is weighed, mixed, macerated and filtered all by hand in the highest tradition of the House's founder, James Creed. Today, sixth generation and master perfumer Olivier Creed and his son, Erwin Creed, carry on the craft from their Parisian laboratory continuing the art of Creed's perfume making—a timeless, yet modern take on history, bottled. Founded in London in 1760,  The house of Creed is the only family-owned luxury fragrance dynasty that has served royal houses as well as the public for over 250 years.

In 2018, it bought a majority stake in Dries Van Noten, one of the last independent names at the top of Europe’s fashion sector, and later launched a perfume and cosmetics line. Queen of Silk makes its own sophisticated statement on femininity thanks to a rich, creamy floral composition, primarily derived from the most decadent Indian tuberose. Paired with heavenly Chinese osmanthus, this hypnotic floral accord adds a luxurious texture to the perfume reminiscent of the richness and gossamer-like touch of coveted silk. Similarly, Queen of Silk evokes the house’s unique couturier history but instead draws on coveted silk, a material once crafted by master artisans and prized since time immemorial for its grace and grandeur. An enchanting tribute to this most treasured fabric, Queen of Silk mirrors the craftsmanship that has defined The House of Creed’s long legacy, expertly weaving together some of the most precious ingredients from across the globe. In one sense, Carmina and Queen of Silk are cut from the same cloth, both echoing The House of Creed’s origins as a prestigious tailoring house that once created bespoke garments for a discerning clientele.

Viking is the brand’s first major men’s scent since the introduction of the cult best-selling Aventus in 2010. To read the full history of The House of Creed, we would love to see you in any of our Boutiques where one of our fragrance experts would love to assist and offer you a copy of our Creed Magazine. Meticulously designed with gifting at the forefront of every decision, Creed's signature packaging provides an everlasting experience. For every online fragrance order, Creed makes a donation to One Tree Planted to plant one tree as part of Creed's commitment to sustainability. Charles also became a founding member of the British Fashion Institute; he can be seen photographed alongside other founding members in the V&A book The Golden Age of Couture. He finally joined the family business in 1935 after working as a floor walker at Bergdorf Goodman.

With numerous references to royalty within their history, it was important to find direct links to the royal connections. In 1860, an article from the Army and Navy Gazette noted that the Henry Creed of Creed and Cumberland was awarded by special appointment to Queen Victoria and Principal Courts in Europe. He began working in D’Antin Paris for Messrs Harris & Co tailors, where he would have created exquisite garments for European Royalty. Henry was later granted a Royal Warrant (1885), signed by Mistress of the Robes, Annie Roxburgh and is still proudly displayed in the Serbie Store, Paris. Additionally, it was discovered that Henry created a riding habit for Queen Victoria in 1885 which can be found in the Kyoto Museum, Japan.

“Puig’s journey to becoming luxury will not be easy,” said Xavier Brun, a portfolio manager at Trea Asset Management, who plans to buy the company’s shares. “Although some of its more exclusive brands compete with luxury houses, overall the more classic perfume range, like Carolina Herrera or Rabanne, is one step behind.” That said, the “element of luxury is what attracted us to the name,” he said. Still based at Paris, with a factory at Fontainebleau, Creed manufactures many of its own essences using a traditional technique – a process now abandoned by most as too costly but which sets the Creed fragrances apart from some of their modern counterparts. The high quality natural raw ingredients are still weighed out, mixed and macerated by hand. But the firm faces growing competition as it increasingly runs up against French luxury behemoths LVMH and Kering, both of which are tapping the high-margin, high-end fragrance market that Puig first entered with the acquisitions of Penhaligon’s and L’artisan Parfumeur in 2015. Last year, Kering reportedly paid €3.5 billion for one such brand called Creed fragrances as it builds its own beauty division under the direction of a former Estée Lauder executive. L’Oreal has also been in talks about potentially buying a minority stake in Omani luxury fragrance company Amouage, Bloomberg reported on Apr. 4.
