In 1978, the original owners were bought out by a trio of investors led by Bob Fisher who changed the format of the club to stand-up comedy. Its homemade ice cream continues to impress generation after generation. Under their ownership, Yardley Ice House won Best of Philly in 2003, 2012, 2013 and in 2016 when it graced the cover of Philadelphia Magazine as the best water ice in the Delaware Valley.

The Bisserts retired at the beginning of this year passing the reigns of the business over to their niece, Jackie, and her husband, Todd, who continue to improve and expand the business with new flavors. This past year they added six new favors including birthday cake, wildberry Sangria, apple pie, Blue Hawaii and Ecto-Cooler, inspired by Ghostbusters. As it happens, the couple’s season will truly kick off this Saturday, Mar 11, at noon, when their Yardley Ice House location reopens, which sits a mere 10 minutes from the upcoming outpost. The Yardley Ice House started as a family business and remains one today.

One big change from the Yardley Ice House is that the Newtown location will be accepting credit cards. When the store does open, hours will be from noon to 10 p.m. The store will be seasonal, closing sometime in mid to late fall.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The owners of the Yardley Ice House will be bringing its premium water ice to historic State Street in Newtown Borough next spring. “We can’t wait to serve the Newtown community and see everyone when we open,” said Jackie. "Most important of all, we served all of you your favorite delicious treats all spring and summer," wrote Jackie on the Yardley Ice House Facebook page. "Thank you so much for your support. It means everything to us." From 1960 to 1978, The Ice House, originally managed by Keith Pearce, aka, O'Brien, was a folk music club with acts coming from around the country to perform. During that same time, many comedians also appeared at the club.
The Ice House uses only top shelf, premium ingredients to make its hand crafted frozen treats setting it apart from its competitors, said Jackie. Because the ice maker is so big, Jackie said ice making operations will be located in Yardley with the ice being transported to Newtown where the ingredients will be added. The menu was limited at first, but they soon began featuring favorites like Orange Creamsicle and Cherry Bordeaux, and quickly developed a large following. They have since expanded their menu to include over 80 unique flavors, like Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. The Ice House Comedy Club is a comedy club located at 24 Mentor Avenue in Pasadena, California.
